  1. howdy,

is it possible to use gordian knot to adjust a file's framerate?

i have a ripped PAL DVD on my hard drive, of which i want to convert a single chapter to an avi using xvid. i already tried converting that chapter using a reduced bitrate and resolution but the video still plays back at 25 FPS, which is overkill considering there isn't much motion in this particular DVD (it's a stand-up comedy act).

i want to drop it down to 15 FPS, using gordian knot or any of its bundled apps if possible.

i haven't found anything in my searches that didn't pertain to conversion for mobile devices, but those guides always involved proprietary software...there has to be a way to do this with virtualdub or something.

    any tips?

    thanks

Sure. VirtualDub will do a framerate conversion. I don't know how it will play, but you can try it. Look under 'Video>Framerate.' I would try a short encode before you commit yourself.

You could crank up XviD's frame drop ratio. By default it is set to 0 which means it drops a frame only if it is 100% identical to the previous. Crank it up and it will drop more frames. It will still be 25fps, just with a lot of N-VOP's. When the decoder encounters an N-VOP, it simply repeats the previous frame.

  4. It's not too bright an idea if you ask me, but it's easily enough accomplished by editing the .avs that GKnot generates for you.

Load the Decomb Plugin by removing the "#" from in front of it. Then at the bottom of the .avs add this:

    Decimate(5).Decimate(4).

And that will convert your 25fps AVI to 15fps, removing 40% of the frames and keeping it the same length so the audio doesn't have to be altered.
